Unrivalled Expertise in Remote Veterinary Pathology

“ We seamlessly convert any veterinary laboratory into a centre of excellence for veterinary pathology”

Global Vetnostics was formed in 2006 when it took its “remote pathology” model to Moscow, Russia and set up a Western Style veterinary reference laboratory in the city. www.globalvet.net

This fully functional laboratory, built from the ground up and housing the most advanced veterinary testing equipment available carries out chemistry, hematology, immunology, serology and cytology testing while placing special emphasis on histo-pathology, a need that had previously not been well addressed.

More recently using Aperio's ScanScope® equipment, which is new to this segment of the veterinary industry, GV has enhanced and expanded its remote histo-pathology business and now offers services to other veterinary laboratories that need a more efficient and cost effective means of providing cytology and histo-pathology services to their clients.

The need for a remote veterinary pathology service

Veterinary laboratories rarely make money out of histo-pathology or cytology testing services and hence tend not to promote these services to their clients even though they must make these tests available.

Although the preparation of samples is relatively simple, if few samples are being prepared it can be hard to justify the effort because once a technician processes the tissue and prepares the samples these must be read in a timely manner by a qualified pathologist. Many laboratories do not have these specialists readily available and hence the lab tends to farm out the whole process to another more specialized facility. This costs money, takes time, and puts the physical sample in the hands of a third party. Customers call the lab for results and frequently these are unavailable and clients must be told that the sample has been sent to a third party.

Global Vetnostics accepts that not all laboratories can have a pathologist on staff and independently provide a full pathology service to its clients. It knows however that all laboratories with the right training, equipment and technical support can process tissues and create good histo and cytology slides and with the use of GV's remote imaging technology can provide these services to its clients and make a profit at the same time.

The Global Vetnostics solution is simple.

GV installs all the apparatus that a laboratory needs to produce slides and it trains the laboratory's technicians on slide production. These technicians prepare their client's slides and load these on to the appropriate Aperio microscope reader (ScanScope®) that has been installed by GV staff. Using GV's remote technology, GV can manipulate the slide on this Aperio microscope in real time from its hub in Canada and can provide the client with a detailed analysis and report on the status of the tissue on the slide.
